Exclusive interview: Co-Owner of MINX Nails Janice Jordan

 Hey Dolls,
Here is an exclusive interview with the Co-Owner/ Founder of minx Nails, Janice Jordan. minx nails has really been under the spot light in the fashion industry lately. From runways to photo-shoots and celebrities. what I love about it is that it is unique and vibrant and nothing like your average nail polish! check out their website for more details Minx Nails.

1. What is fashion to you?
I saw a taxi in New York City during Fashion Week that said, “Money can’t buy you fashion” and it really hit home to me.  I have only recently been a part of the fashion world but have always been involved in art and in expressing myself through what I was wearing.
I work with two different applications of fashion.  The first involves anyone who takes the time and effort to express themselves through what they wear.

The second application of fashion is for famous people and celebrities.  We often get requests for custom Minx from famous people that would not work in an everyday environment, but somehow completes the celebrity’s look.
2. How did Minx nails become the latest trend?
Minx becoming the latest trend has been part of our business plan since Dawn became involved in the business.  Before we had a name for Minx we marketed it as “The Next Big Thing.” We knew from the beginning we had something that would change the world of fashion.  Dawn drives the brand, and we were very lucky to recruit the talents of Janice Miller to PR our successes.  Minx became a success due to women with dreams that were willing to work hard and sacrifice.  The fact that we have amazing metallics and designs never before seen or experienced in nail fashion also helped!
3. What would you be if it wasn’t for Minx?
I am an addict entrepreneur.  I am confident I will always be taking an idea and trying to grow it into something more.  I am also looking forward to having more free time to help others grow their ideas into reality.  Both Dawn and I have always been anxious to get involved with charities.  We have done some custom Minx for fund raisers for Breast Cancer and Haiti relief.  Dawn has been working with Father Pat who teaches arts to the children in the favelas of Sao Paulo, Brasil and we have a great fundraiser up our sleeve!
 4.Who are your top clients?
Well, we have a wide variety of clients.  We’ve created custom designs for celebrities including Beyoncé, Rihanna, Lady Gaga, Kim Kardashian, and Katy Perry.  We are right now in the middle of New York, London and Paris fashion weeks, and have worked with designers including Alexander McQueen, Gareth Pugh, Vivienne Westwood.  And, we’ve just finished a fun collaboration with Marc Jacobs.
5.Tell us about your latest collection of minx nails.
The latest addition to our wide portfolio of designs, graphics and colors is the “Minx Professional by Naja” line.  The 8 new designs were created by Naja, a West Hollywood celebrity nail artist that we’ve worked with for years.  What I love about her line is that there are a number of transparent designs that can be worn on their own, but also layered over gel or over Minx bases.  We have begun adding quite a few transparent Minx designs to encourage nail technicians to play with Minx, to layer and to embellish – to let their creative juices flow.
6. How do you pick your artists for minx?
Since the launch of Minx, we have developed close relationships with the leading nail stylists’ in the world, and have invited these elite artists to create “The Signature Collection” lines.  These lines, created by the crème de la crème in the nail profession, enable Minx to harness the most exciting, cutting edge nail artistry and present this in a form that is accessible and wearable.
7.There must be a basic style you work with, something that’s uniquely you. How would you describe this style?
Dawn and I do all the design work for Minx, be it working side by side with the artists doing their line, the fashion shows, or coming up with the next launch.  What we have learned to do through the years is to translate visuals into Minx so that it “works”.   This is sometimes very difficult, as what may look good on a large scale may not look good on a nail.  Because we invented the product, we have nothing to compare to and are constantly competing against ourselves.  We originally focused on creating unique Minx styles for a variety of tastes. We have just started to express our style, and what you see now is just the beginning of a new era in fashion.
8. What is next for Minx?
We are finding that fashion designers are extremely intrigued and excited about adding nail fashion to their overall fashion ensembles, and we have enjoyed these collaborations greatly.  We are going to continue to collaborate with designers to create customized Minx that complements their collections, and also to bring customization to everyone through the Minx Customizer.  Keep an eye on our Web site, Facebook, and our blog.  We have so much mindboggling Minx coming your way!  (We Minxes don’t sleep much – we are too excited).
 9. Three words to describe someone who wears minx?
Fun, sexy, mischievous.
 10. Favorite Fashion City and why?
I do not have a favorite fashion city.  All cities have their own heart and personality
 11. Ever been to the Middle East, Dubai?
Yes, Both Dawn and I found Dubai to be an amazing country for fashion, the people and the history.  We sat for nights listening to how Dubai has grown, and the pains, the success and the pride of the people impressed us so much. We met with women who were carving a name for themselves, and were true heroes.
12.Any nail do and don’ts tips?
Treat your nails like you would a haircut. Figure out what kind of shape and look you want and what suits your life style and make sure your manicurist or Minx stylist understands and respects your wishes.  Educate yourself on what a nail is and how to maintain it.  Express yourself with your nails; it will change your life!
13. Any last words for our readers?
No.  We are in a new world with amazing opportunity.  Dawn and I have been fortunate to take advantage of this but have also worked for years at great sacrifice.  Our success did not come easy.  I want to challenge the readers who yearn for change to make it happen.  This challenge is not for everyone, I have a sister who is an engineer and in my eyes has the “American dream” husband, house, children in great schools getting great grades. Guarantee she would not be happy living in my shoes.  But, if you have that yearning in your stomach to do something different I encourage you to go for it.  I say no to the last words because I hope we can hear from you and figure out a way to come together to create a better place for all. Go All Out!
